image

Prioritizing plant-based and vegetarian options, which generally produce fewer emissions from farm to table compared to most animal-based meals. By shifting towards a more plant-based diet and reducing reliance on animal farming, food enthusiasts can lower their carbon footprint as part of the overall effort to help mitigate climate change.

Using local and seasonal produce whenever possible, means shorter distances traveled and a reduced carbon footprint for transportation and storage needs.

Sourcing ingredients with high sustainability standards to offer climate-friendly options that embrace sustainable production and farming practices, while striving for low impact and high transparency when possible across the supply chain and complying with animal welfare practices.

Low Emissions Meals

Our low-emissions meal criteria have been created and verified in partnership with Planet FWD, the leading climate management platform for consumer companies seeking to improve their environmental impact.

To create the low emissions selection from the CookUnity menu, we've chosen a representative sample of meals per category (beef, chicken, seafood, vegan, vegetarian, and dairy), and ran Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) to validate the impact of each category on the environment.

Low-emissions meals creation criteria

After assessing the carbon footprint of each category, tracing from cradle to grave emissions (taking into account ingredients, packaging, production, transportation, distribution and storage, consumer use, end of life, and production waste) we defined:

  • Low-emissions meals at CookUnity have on average less than 1.9 kg CO2e.
  • Ingredients excluded due to their impact: beef, lamb, poultry, pork and bacon, seafood, saffron, cheese > 8%, and rice.
